Wix vs WordPress vs Squarespace: which platform scores best?
Wix leads by less than four points. The platform you chose matters less than what you publish on it.
Key takeaways
- Across 5,243 sites, Wix averaged 73.4, WordPress 70.8 and Squarespace 69.5.
- Wix led on page structure (82.3, versus 72.5 for WordPress), which is where templates differ most.
- The differences between platforms are small next to the gaps every platform shares: FAQ content, contact details and page substance.
The scores
| Platform | Sites | Average score |
|---|---|---|
| Wix | 1,105 | 73.4 |
| WordPress | 3,784 | 70.8 |
| Squarespace | 354 | 69.5 |
| Webflow | 112 | 69.3 |
| GoDaddy builder | 116 | 66.1 |
Wix leads WordPress by 2.6 points and Squarespace by 3.9. Webflow and GoDaddy have under 120 sites each, so read their averages as directional.
Where the differences come from
Structure. Wix averaged 82.3, against 72.5 for WordPress. Templates that produce a single main headline and a logical heading order give Wix a head start. WordPress varies widely, because the result depends on the theme and any page builder. Some page builders produce deeply nested layouts, so it is worth checking your own pages.
Everything else is much closer than the platform choice suggests. FAQ content is low across the board, and no platform writes your FAQ for you. Platform users also differ in many ways, so treat these as patterns, not proof that a platform causes a score.
If you're on WordPress (3,784 sites in our study)
You're on the most common platform in our data, about 2.6 points behind Wix on average. Check that each page has exactly one H1, that headings follow a logical order (H1, then H2, then H3, with no skipped levels), and that your theme or page builder isn't burying text in layers of generic containers. An SEO plugin such as Yoast or Rank Math can help you manage titles, descriptions and structured data.
If you're on Squarespace (354 sites)
You're about 3.9 points behind Wix. Add FAQ content, make sure page titles and descriptions are unique per page instead of templated, and consider adding structured data beyond what the SEO panel provides. Squarespace covers the basics, and AI-specific signals take deliberate work.
If you're on Wix (1,105 sites)
Don't waste the head start. In our data the common gaps are the same as everywhere: thin content and missing FAQ. A Wix site with a real FAQ page and complete contact details can outscore a WordPress site that lacks them.
The bigger picture
Webflow (69.3) and the GoDaddy builder (66.1) sit in the same broad band, and Weebly is lower (see why Weebly sites score lowest). Across the mainstream platforms, averages fall between 66 and 74. That tells you the platform decision is a second-order concern. The first-order concerns are platform-independent: crawler access, an FAQ, contact details, and pages with enough substance to quote.
What to do
- Run a scan and fix crawler access first.
- Add an FAQ and publish your contact details as text.
- Check headings and titles on your key pages.
- Re-scan to confirm.
Switching platforms for a few points on average, while rebuilding your whole site, is rarely a good trade.
