Sites with detectable contact details score 11 points higher
Sites where our scanner could find contact details averaged 11 points higher. Here is how to make yours easy to find.
Key takeaways
- Sites with a detectable business name, address or phone number averaged 74.2 (3,891 sites). Sites without averaged 62.9 (6,478 sites).
- Sites that publish contact details tend to be more complete overall, so the gap is a marker, not a measure of what adding them would gain.
- Put your details in text on every page, and add LocalBusiness structured data.
What the data shows
We checked whether our scanner could detect a business name, address or phone number on each site. Where it could (3,891 sites), the average score was 74.2. Where it couldn't (6,478 sites), the average was 62.9. Roughly 62% of sites didn't show these details in a form our scanner could detect.
Read the gap with care. Businesses that publish clear contact details usually also have fuller descriptions, better titles and labeled structure. We can say that detectable contact details go with higher scores. We can't say that adding them alone would add 11 points.
Why assistants need this
People ask for businesses by place: "plumber near me," "best dentist in Akron." Answering takes a location and a way to make contact. If your site doesn't state your address and phone in a form that can be extracted, an assistant has little to confirm where you are or how to reach you, and may favor a business that does.
The usual ways details go missing
- Contact details only in an image. A footer graphic with the phone number baked in. Visitors see it, and machines see pixels.
- A contact form and nothing else. No address or phone is listed.
- Details only on a listing. Your Google Business Profile has them, and your website doesn't.
- Inconsistent formats. "(555) 123-4567" on one page, "555.123.4567" on another, and no address anywhere.
- A service area with no places. "Serving the greater metro area" without a single town.
The fix (about 20 minutes)
- Put your name, street address and phone in your footer as text, so they appear on every page.
- Build a real contact page with name, address, phone, email, hours and service area. A map embed is fine, but the text must exist too.
- Add LocalBusiness structured data with the same details. Ask your web person, or see our schema guide.
- Keep it consistent across your site, Google profile, social accounts and directories.
- Name your service area. "Serving Pittsburgh, Bethel Park, Mt. Lebanon and the South Hills" is specific enough to quote.
Send to your web person: > Please put our business name, address and phone number as text in the footer on every page, make sure the contact page lists them (not just a form), and add LocalBusiness structured data with our details and service area.
One more check
After you publish, confirm the details match everywhere. Conflicting information makes a business harder to verify.
About this data: 10,369 small business sites scored in October 2026. "Detectable" means our scanner found a business name, address or phone number on the page or in its structured data. Averages are CrawlReady scores.
